Advantages of Freediving Goggles over Traditional Diving Masks
Discover the benefits of freediving goggles compared to traditional diving masks. For ambitious freedivers looking to dive longer, more comfortably, and deeper, goggles combined with a nose clip are an excellent choice. The main advantage lies in pressure equalization: with goggles and a nose clip, you can equalize pressure in the pool without needing to touch your nose. This is particularly important for freedivers with sensitive ears who feel even minor pressure changes on the eardrum, such as when descending for a turn.
Standard swimming goggles are suitable up to a depth of around 4 meters – approximately the depth of a diving pool. Diving deeper with conventional goggles is not advisable, as they can painfully suction onto the eye sockets.
Fluid Goggles and FREEQ (Hectometer) Goggles
For deeper dives with goggles and a nose clip, there are two specialized approaches:
Fluid Goggles – These goggles are filled with water, which, unlike air, does not compress. The different refractive index of water compared to air is offset by strong lenses to ensure clear vision.
FREEQ (Hectometer) Goggles – These models have a double-walled silicone body. During descent, the inner space between the walls fills with water, inflating the silicone body and compensating for the decreasing internal volume, preventing an uncomfortable suction effect on the eyes.
Dive safer and more efficiently with our specially designed freediving goggles and experience the difference yourself.
