The Mares Smart Apnea is a good choice: an easy-to-use computer that has everything it needs and gets by without frills.
The Mares Smart Apnea Dive Computer represents an innovation in the world of dive computers that has been specially developed to meet the needs of freedivers. The Mares Smart Apnea dive computer is characterised by its intuitive user interface and ease of use, making it ideal for demanding underwater use. The Smart Apnea has a specialised apnoea mode that is tailored to the unique requirements of freediving, making it an indispensable companion for any serious diver.
The Mares Smart Apnea Dive Computer offers two main operating modes: watch mode and dive mode. In watch mode, users can make numerous settings, including changing alarms, checking logbooks with detailed information on dive times and depths reached, and downloading this data to a PC - although a separate cable, not included in the scope of delivery, is required for the latter. These functions make the Smart Apnea a versatile instrument that is also useful out of the water.
Dive mode, on the other hand, enables precise monitoring of various underwater parameters such as depth, dive time, descent and ascent speed and water temperature. These settings can be conveniently made on the surface before the diver enters the water. In addition, the dive computer is equipped with a backlight for improved readability of the display in low light conditions. The Smart Apnea can store dive profiles of around 20-30 hours in length, depending on the number of dives per session and the duration of each dive.
Dive data can be transferred to a PC or Mac using a separately available USB clip that is compatible with the Dive Organiser software or the Divers' Diary software. Other important features of the Smart Apnea include a digital chronograph with backlight, water resistance up to 200 metres, a daily alarm, an hourly time signal, a countdown timer, a digital time zone and date display, a second digital time zone and a replaceable CR2430 battery (I recommend having the battery replaced by your dealer. If you want to do it yourself, make sure that you also replace the O-ring with an O-ring of the same dimensions). The device works reliably in a temperature range of -10 °C to +50 °C and has a display with a diagonal of 31 mm, protected by robust mineral glass.
It is recommended to rinse the device thoroughly with fresh water after each dive and to replace the battery when necessary to ensure optimum performance. Users should also familiarise themselves with the operating instructions to ensure the full functionality and longevity of this sophisticated dive computer.
