A Gentle Introduction to Freediving: SSI Basic Freediver Course

The SSI Basic Freediver Course offers you the ideal introduction to the fascinating world of Freediving/apnea.

What to Expect in the SSI Basic Freediver Course

• Take the deepest breath of your life and experience what it feels like to have empty lungs.
• Learn to achieve deep relaxation in just a few minutes using a simple breathing technique.
• Feel your heart beating and learn how to consciously slow your pulse.
• Hold your breath longer than you ever thought possible.
• Float on the water's surface and feel how your resting pulse halves, just like a marine mammal.
• Discover how to comfortably dive a length of the pool or more with Freediving fins and perfect buoyancy.
• You can later upgrade your course to Freediver and dive vertically to 10 meters deep in the lake.

Course Goals of the SSI Basic Freediver Course

You will acquire theoretical knowledge (through eLearning and classroom instruction) and develop basic skills for static and dynamic diving in the pool.

You will be able to secure other freedivers in the pool and respond appropriately to emergencies. The theoretical knowledge and skills in the pool match those of the SSI Freediving Course.

Prerequisites for the SSI Basic Freediver Course

• Minimum age: 12 years.
• Health: You must be in good health and, if necessary, provide a medical fitness certificate for diving.
• Swimming ability: You should be able to swim 200 meters continuously and be in good health.
• No prior experience in snorkeling, scuba diving, or freediving is required.

Required Equipment

• Swimwear (women: bikini or swimsuit; men: swim shorts, preferably Speedos), including a beach towel.
• Open-Cell Freediving wetsuit (included in the course price).
• Low-volume mask (included in the course price).
• Flexible snorkel (included in the course price).
• Flexible weight belt (included in the course price).
• Coated weight plates (included in the course price).
• Neoprene socks (included in the course price and can be kept).
• Freediving fins (included in the course price).

The course price includes the rental of complete Freediving gear, as well as meals, drinks, and pool entry. My philosophy is that you can only experience the Freediving feeling with the right equipment. No surprises, no additional costs! You will have the option to purchase all your equipment after the course at a fair price and start training immediately.

Course Location

Morning: Felben-Wellhausen near Frauenfeld for theory (20 minutes by car from Winterthur and 40 minutes from Zurich and St. Gallen).

Afternoon: Rheinau, Aquarina pool for pool skills.

Times

Arrival between 08:30 and 09:00; course starts at 09:00 in Felben-Wellhausen.

Course ends around 18:00 in Rheinau.
